Kobi's Pup IQ

First off, let Kobi get this straight: Kobi is a Pup. Not a 'Puppy', which is what you call the four puny ones that hover around Snowie. Pup is something like a grown-up dog, but still fun enough to Reow! Reow-Reow around. Geddit?

On our walk this morning, we encountered an obstacle. Grrrrr

It was a huge coconut leaf, totally dried up, and lying perpendicular to the road we run on towards the big field in front of the MRT station. Kobi hates all this dry weather. It's so hot, my tongue starts lolling out of my mouth within a few minutes of walk-walk. And Kobi hates that, because it flops here and there and everywhere, sometimes even to the side, which makes me look quite unscary.

Anyway, because this huge thing was lying in our way, with the pokey fronds pointing skyward, three times my height, we were a little confused!

Snowie and I reached it first, before Poppy strolled up casually. We didn't know what to do at first.

This reminded Mommy of a Doggy IQ Test she had read some time back.
If your dog was running in the park & its way was interrupted by a long hedge row or fence too high for it to jump over, it would probably:
A. Run alongside the hedge row and look for a way around it
B. Forget about it and run off in a different direction
C. Try to burrow its way underneath or get thru somehow
D. Wait for me to lift it over

Well. C and D are obviously silly. Ha ha reow!

Kobi and Snowie sorta trotted alongside the stupid leaf. Poppy impressed Mommy by heading straight for where the tip of the leaf was and just stepping over it, which wasn't much of a feat.

When Kobi and Snowie saw that Poppy had gotten through (but didn't really notice how), Kobi decided to do what he knows best! When there seems to be no way, KOBI MAKES A WAY!

BA-ba-ba-ba-ba-baaap (like Scrappy's cheer)

And Kobi happily leapt through the leaves, nevermind the pokiness and the loud crackly noises. Kobi was through! KOBI POWER!!!!!!!

Pup IQ Score: 342
You, Kobi Man-nyak, are off the scale for Pup Intelligence. Your test results show that you belong in the top 0.000029278356% of Pups who have taken the Dried Coconut Leaf Obstacle IQ Test. God, please send us nice thunder rainstorms

:: 210205 :: My poor neck
Posted by Hello

Coz of the incessant heat wave that the Met said we'd have to endure till the end of the month, I've got a terrible rash on my neck. Mommy hopes it's healing, but it's really itchy and I can't help but scratch it, so the raw patch has spread over the past few days :(

And all the haze from the bush fires is making our eyes tear too. We're saying our doggie prayers for rain here. A few storms would be nice. The grass everywhere's been so parched it pokes our feet, and the leaves on the trees are all turning brown and dropping off, and make cackly noises when we run on piles of them.

Today was the puppies' first time spending the entire day outside their crate.

Mommy put them all out on the rug in the kitchen, and the four of them quickly started their moonwalking towards the cafeteria for a meal of milk. It was funny to watch coz the kitchen floor is too slippery for their smooth, baby paw-pads and their legs kept sliding out from under them. Good thing for them, Snowie eventually got the message that she was supposed to lie on the rug with them and not remain happily in her crate ('Yay! Leg room for once' she said) or try to invade mine and Kobi's.

After noisly milking the cow, the pups curled up for a nap. But not before doing a little sniffing and exploring of the Great Kitchen beyond the four blue walls of their crate. Of coz, they didn't go far. Outside the perimenter of the rug, walking was like trying to walk on ice for 'em young 'uns.

He not only sniffed them all and nudged them with his nose, but loved to use his paws to hold the puppies' heads to the ground. Mommy's been too tired after work to take pictures but finally got her camera out on Thursday. Puppies are starting to wobbly-walk. German Sam, the biggest and fattest, walks the most steadily.

Chow-wow-wow

I'm intrigued by the all-black german shephard's challenge feed post. Especially the sentence quoted: 'For many dogs feeding times are the highlight of the day, but 30 seconds later the bowl is empty and he is left with nothing to look forward to.'

Mommy is as intrigued as I am, coz we're such fussy eaters it drives her nuts. Feeding time is haaaaardly the highlight of our day -- that's the WALK WALK!!!

Usually we just turn our noses up at the food she puts down. Except for Kobi -- who's been wriggling to get back into Mommy's good books again these days after acting like a rebellious teenager -- he's been valiantly finishing up the food in his dish and whatever I leave behind.

Anyway, I really hope Mommy doesn't get any ideas. (Then again, I don't think I'd need worry, coz we don't have a garden and the most she can do is to scatter our food around the kitchen floor. But Kobi already takes care of that -- that messy boy.)

Even Snowie, who's nursing four puppies, is being exceptionally choosy. Since she's popped out those little things that go ew ew ew, she only wants to drink milk and nibble on kibbles. Even though that overpriced 'lactose-free' pets milk Daddy bought gives her stinky wattery poop.

And kibbles aren't as nutritious as the Abady meal, but Snowie, like me, will very selectively sniff through the mix and pick out the kibbles one by one coz we love the crunch! That's our challenge for now. But don't tell Mommy. In a week or two, we'll get bored of kibbles mixed into our food and want some new temptation mixed in. Hmmm. Maybe mashed up hardboiled eggs...

What Mommy doesn't get is that we're actually training her. We'll make a gourmet dog food chef out of her yet!

Hot Dogs

Oh oh! Mommy's really mad with us today. She rushed to bring us for a walk before going to work. She even brought us to the bridge side of the river where there are lots of trees to pee against and spots to sniff. Clever Mommy!

But it was really hot so we got kinda heatstroked. We couldn't even make it halfway through the whole leg of our usual walk before we were ducking under the trees and panting pleadingly at Mommy. So, ok! We cut short our walk and headed back.

But when Mommy tried to get us back on our leashes, Kobi decided he had other plans and trotted off to sit in the shade near the kindergarten. Mommy kept calling him but he just sat there, tongue hanging out, giving his silly panting grin. Mommy used the play-play tone, the commanding tone, even the fierce tone with a threat of the 'pain of the cane'.

But there Kobi remained.

Mommy was really pissed, coz there were a lot of construction workers from a river-side building project staring at this mad woman shouting at a little dog sitting 20metres away. She leashed me and Snowie and stalked off.

Sure enough. That rascal Kobi panicked. He saw us leaving without him ('What? Leaving The Man-Nyak behind? How can Mommy bear to do that??' he must have thought).

We heard his whines before we saw him come dashing to catch up. Mommy gave him the cold shoulder for a few more seconds while he kept 'heeling' ingratiatingly.

Still, Mommy was really mad coz Kobi's defiance made her late for work. I don't like Mommy to go to work. I wish she could go on long leave again like last month, so I can snuggle up and sleep on her lap all day. She's in a much better mood when she's not working.
